We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Scott Flynn, solicitor of Burridge, Harris and Flynn Lawyers, now part of the CJM Law Group.
Scott was admitted to practice in July 1984 and dedicated his entire legal career to Burridge, Harris and Flynn Lawyers through its various iterations. Mentored by Ray Burridge and Ron Harris, Scott built a practice grounded in integrity, trust and community. He believed strongly in the law as a profession of relationships and was widely respected for his ethical approach, depth of knowledge and generosity in mentoring others.
Scott was known to many simply as “my solicitor” – a reflection of the long standing, trusted relationships he formed with his clients. His advice was thoughtful, practical, and always given with care.
Above all, Scott was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, pa, brother and friend. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
CJM Lawyers is honoured to carry forward the legacy of Burridge, Harris and Flynn Lawyers and the values Scott upheld throughout his career.
CJM Lawyers is pleased to share that Boylson & Collyer, a well‑respected Boonah law firm with more than 30 years of experience in leasing, town and rural conveyancing, wills and estates, and commercial law, has been welcomed into the CJM Law Group.
This is an exciting milestone for CJM Lawyers as we expand our regional presence into Boonah. We are delighted to welcome the Boylson and Collyer team, who will continue in their roles as they join CJM Lawyers. This expansion is also a great opportunity for the Boonah community, who will now have access to a wider range of legal experience and support, backed by the resources of our broader team.
This partnership brings together two firms who share the same commitment to practical legal advice, trusted relationships, and genuine community support. By combining Boylson & Collyer’s long‑standing local knowledge with CJM Lawyers’ broader resources, delivered by the same familiar team they know and trust.
We look forward to building strong relationships, supporting local families and businesses, and contributing positively to the Boonah community as we establish our presence in the region.

Buying a Business in QLD or NSW: Different States, Different Rules
By: John (Ta-Chun) Chou
Buying a business across the QLD–NSW border isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. From contracts and leases to transfer duty and employee entitlements, each state follows different legal rules that can significantly impact your purchase.
Whether you’re acquiring a café on the Gold Coast or a retail business in Northern NSW, understanding these key differences early can help you avoid costly surprises and protect your investment

Engaging Counsel in NSW and QLD: Timing, Risk & Strategy
By: Luis Gonzalez
In NSW and Queensland, there is no fixed rule about when a barrister must be engaged - but timing can be critical. Engaging counsel early is not a sign of escalation; it is a strategic decision that can shape pleadings, manage risk, and avoid costly missteps before positions harden.
From advising on prospects to navigating complex interlocutory applications, the right advocacy at the right moment can materially influence both outcomes and costs.
Need clarity on when specialist advocacy could protect your position?
Speak with CJM Lawyers to assess risk, timing, and strategy before small issues become costly disputes.

AUSTRALIA DAY
26 January 2026
Each of our offices prepared a small morning tea to celebrate with colleagues and reflect on our community, collaboration and the values that bring us together.
For some, January 26 is a celebration of our nation, for others, it marks a time of deep pain and loss. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, pay our respects to Elders past and present, and recognise the resilience, strength, and enduring cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. May we continue to listen, learn, and walk together towards a more inclusive future.
We hope you enjoyed a safe and meaningful long weekend and returned to work and life energised, ready for what’s next!
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to share their experiences with CJM Lawyers.
